Security Levels and Threat Areas

A GUIDE TO THE ABUS SECURITY LEVELS

The ABUS security level system has been re-evaluated and revised for increased transparency and simplicity. Today’s ratings are based entirely on the security level of the lock. The level system - represented as a “speedometer”- works on a scale of 1-15 for bicycle and 1-20 for motorcycle locks.

The new system was designed with the consumer in mind. The goal was to present a clear and easy graphic representation of the security rating without the previous complexity of various color ratings and considerations such as lock design, comfort or safety. We believe this very clear, at-a-glance restyling, combined with the new packaging, results in a clean, modern appearance and promotes ABUS as an easily accessible security solution for your customers.

Security Levels 1-4

1-4 Standard Security

Locks with a rating between 1-4 provide basic protection against theft and best suited for areas of low risk. These locks are often intended as a theft deterrent, as a secondary locking option or as an accessory lock for a helmet, jacket or bag.
Security Levels 5-9

5-9 Extra Security

Locks with a security level between 5-9 offer an extra level of security and are most appropriate in areas of medium to low theft risk and for use on on scooters or entry level bikes. These locks are also recommended as secondary locking options in areas of high-theft risk, when used with a higher rated lock for added security.

Security Levels 10-15

10-20 Maximum Security

Motorcycle locks with a security dial rating between 10-20 offer the maximum level of protection and are intended for use in areas of higher risk - such as urban settings, with more expensive bikes and ATVs.

Security Levels 20

20 The Highest Security Level

Motorbike Maximum Security (20) is the highest security level available represented by a completely red dial. These locks are recommended for higher value motorbikes being locked in areas of high-theft risk.
